ACCORD - Our main emphasis is on: (1) integration at the local church and school level, and (2) dissolving BOTH Regional and State Conferences and bringing them together into one unified Conference in each geographic area.
A couple years ago, a group of Adventist leaders traveled to South Africa to work with the needy. One of our church leaders requested to meet with Nelson Mandela (President of the South Africa). After scheduling a meeting, our delegate went to the president’s office and sat in the waiting room for a long time. Finally, the delegate asked why he was still waiting to see Mandela. He was told that the president was trying to decide to meet with a denominational leader of a church that was still segregated. At the end of the day, our delegate never got to meet with President Mandela because of our open sin of segregation.
Until I moved to the East coast I never really experienced Adventist segregation. I can’t believe the racial dividing lines that currently exist. Here we are in the 21st Century and the Adventist Church is still segregated. In North America, we have black conferences and white conferences (this is the way they are known).
