Adventist Aquarium

And walking by the Sea of Galilee, Jesus saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea. For they were fishermen. And He said to them, Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they immediately left their nets and followed him” — Matthew 4:18-20.

God has called ALL OF US to be “fishers of men.” Some are called to leave the secular workforce and become full-time pastors, teachers, administrators, and overseas missionaries, leaving the majority to be “undercover ministers” in their secular career. Whatever the calling may be, we are all called to minister for God 24/7.

As we go fishing for God… catching spiritual fish for the eternal kingdom, we need to have healthy aquariums (churches) to bring the spiritual fish into. Active ministry can be very discouraging when one works really hard to catch a spiritual fish and brings him or her into a dirty aquarium. Below are a few issues that cause our churches to be unhealthy for new fish.

THEOLOGICAL FOUNDATION – Our theological foundation needs to be rock solid and uncompromised. New and young Adventists need to see and receive a solid message of hope, truth, and love. All of our 28 Fundamental Beliefs point to Jesus and MUST be embraced by our pastors, teachers, professors, and administrators.

SEGREGATION – 21st Century segregation in God’s end time Church communicates a very sad message. We need to “carefully” breakdown the walls of segregation and unify our church family.

WORSHIP WARS (STYLE) – Any Adventist should be able to walk into any Adventist church in the world and not be greatly offended by the worship style. As of now, we have two extremes and everything in between… 1. Cold Formalism/Traditionalism – Organ playing, hymn singing, KJV only churches are freezing out the young and newly baptized people. 2. Wannabe Pentecostal Style – Rocking and Rolling churches are watering down the truth so to be culturally relevant. Both are dividing and killing our churches. We need a healthy balance when it comes to our Adventist worship style.

WOMEN IN MINISTRY – Most women (if not all) will attend a church that is administrated by men. Thousands of people will not attend a church where there are women in administrative positions.

Let’s prayerfully discuss these issues and make changes as the Spirit leads. I know that we can cleanup God’s prophetic, end time Church (aquarium) and fill it with lots and lots of new fish.

Stand up for Jesus and let your voice be heard!
