Prop 8 and the Homosexual Agenda

“A federal judge on Wednesday overturned a California ban on same-sex marriage, ruling that the Proposition 8 ballot initiative was unconstitutional. The ruling by U.S. District Judge Vaugh Walker, one of three openly gay federal judges in the country, gave opponents of the controversial Proposition 8 ballot a major victory. Gay couples waving rainbow and American flags outside the courthouse cheered, hugged and kissed as word of the ruling spread. “Our courts are supposed to protect our Constitutional rights,” lead plaintiff Kris Perry said as Sandy Stier, her partner of 10 years, stood at her side. “Today, they did.” [Read more]

Do Christians really understand the impact this ruling is going to have on organized denominations?  If homosexuality is legalized at a federal level, we will no longer be able to say that homosexuality is a sin that disqualifies a person for church leadership and membership.  Before you know it, we will have the “Adventist” homosexual community threatening lawsuits if they are not allowed to be active members and church leaders.

As I follow the current news, I am amazed to see the homosexual movement supporters placing their agenda on the same level of interracial marriage, women’s rights, and civil rights.  I’m sorry… but the homosexual agenda is not the same thing.  Women should have the right to vote and to be paid the same wages as men, black people should have the same rights as any other human being, and interracial couples should have the right to marry, these are reasonable human rights that should be applied around the world.

Setting aside spirituality and theology for just a moment, I want to say something that may come across as very bold.  I believe that homosexuality is a sin against humankind.  It goes against everything natural.  Look at the world around you… plants and animals (for the most part) have a female/male system or structure in place.  For example: If male cats decided to live together and female cats decided to live together with no mating going on between the two genders, the species would eventually go extinct.

When we couple human and Biblical reasoning together, we can know, without doubt, that homosexuality is a sin against humankind and God the Creator.  Does this give us the right to abuse or overlook the homosexuals in our communities and churches?  No!  Every homosexual should know that they are welcome to worship in our churches and feel welcomed when they attend.  At the same time, we need to make sure we set up church guidelines and policies that do not allow a homosexual to become a member or leader until they have overcome their sinful addiction and lifestyle.

As time progresses, we are going to have to be more bold in the way we uphold the Word of God.  There will come a time when the world will turn against us and try to force us to abide by their rules and regulations.  When this happens, we need to stand up for Jesus no matter the outcome.  Let’s continue to abide in Jesus everyday and allow Him to use us as bright beacons of light and truth in these last days.
