God is Calling – Will We Listen?

As I was reading through Isaiah chapter one this morning, I came across a stern message for God’s people.  Even though the words were delivered through the prophet Isaiah to the Israelites of old, we can take the living words and apply them to similar situations here in the present.

Even though we have some new leaders at the GC level who are doing a good job of focusing on revival and reformation, we have a long ways to go before we get back on track.  The heavenly guidance God has blessed us with in the Bible and spirit of prophecy needs to be studied and applied to our homes, churches, conferences, schools, hospitals, and other ministries.  If we as a Church are faithful to the Word of God, He has promised make bless and multiply us.   Just like a healthy fruit tree produces much fruit, we as a Church can produce much spiritual fruit if we are spiritually healthy and strong.

When I study the Bible, I like to place myself, my family, and my Church into the text and allow the Holy Spirit to speak to me.  Below is a modern rewrite of Isaiah 1:1-10.  Please do not be offended by the words… as my mother always said, “If the shoe fits… wear it!”

Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth; for the Lord has spoken, I have nursed and brought up my Adventist, end time Church, and they have rebelled against Me.  A dog knows his owner, and the horse his barn; but my Adventist children do not know; My people do not understand.

Woe, sinful Church family, a people heavy with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, sons who corrupt!  They have forsaken the Lord; they have provoked God the Father to anger; they have gone away backward.  Why should your families, churches, schools, hospitals, and other ministries be stricken anymore?  You will revolt more and more; as a Church body, the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.  From the sole of the foot even to the head there is no soundness in it; only a wound and a stripe and a fresh blow; they have not been closed. nor bound up, nor soothed with oil.

Your Church as a whole is spiritually desolate, your churches, schools, and hospitals have been spiritually destroyed.  Unconverted Adventists continue to destroy your Church right before your eyes, and it is wasted, as overthrown by strangers.  What is left of the wonderful Church God created in the 1800’s is like a besieged city.  Except the Lord had left us a very small remnant, we would be as Sodom; we would be like Gomorrah.  Hear the Word of the Lord, rulers of Sodom;
give ear to the Law of our God, people of Gomorrah.

Why do I believe our current Church can be inserted into this passage?  Here are a few reasons:  1. If our churches were healthy they would be growing and planting daughter churches to accommodate the growth.  2. If our schools were healthy we would not be closing our elementary schools and academies.  Our colleges and universities are no longer “missionary” training schools… they are liberal arts schools that prepare our young people for a secular life (not a missionary life).    3. Our hospitals, for the most part, do not use the wonderful health message truths God has blessed us with.  Instead of using God’s remedies, we use worldly methods and pharmaceutical drugs.  These are just a few examples of areas in our Church that need reform if God is truly going pour His rich blessing into our lives.

Let us pray that God will give us a desire to be like Jesus today and every day.  If we are going to have a Church that is revived in these last days, we must first have hearts and minds that are revived by the Holy Spirit.  Individual hearts and homes surrendered to God will help create a Church that is completely committed to God and His lifesaving truths.
