Shining For Jesus – Growth Groups

Posted on August 22, 2011

Another Monday has arrived! The Sabbath has come and gone and many of you took Sunday off to play with the kids, go shopping, or do some extra work around the house.  Monday is the universal indication that the work week has begun.  Millions of people hate Monday and cannot wait until Friday rolls around again.

This existence is usually very self-focused and does very little to impact God’s eternal harvest.

  • Church for us
  • Sabbath walk and nap for us
  • Sunday for us
  • Work for us
  • Time off for us………..

When is it about seeking and saving the lost for Jesus?  When do you intentionally set aside time every week to work the harvest?

“Then He (Jesus) said to them, The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray to the Lord of the harvest that He may send forth laborers into His harvest.” — Luke 10:2

We can change the world’s normal and begin to think outside the box.  We do not have to live for ourselves only, we can decide now to live and work for Jesus.

“Companies of Christian workers should gather to ask for special help, for heavenly wisdom, that they may know how to plan and execute wisely. Especially should they pray that God will baptize is chosen ambassadors in mission fields with a rich measure of His Spirit. The presence of the Spirit with God’s workers will give the proclamation of truth a power that not all the honor or glory of the world could give.”  {AA 50.2}

GROWTH GROUPS:  Most people work at least five days a week.  Within these five days, we can plan to meet with other Christians in the comfort of our homes for prayer, good food, Bible study, and outreach planning.  Growth Groups are a great way to united 3-6 Adventist families for a mid-week boost… allowing them to have a safe place to invite their non-Adventist family and friends.  If we had Growth Groups meeting in every neighborhood, we would then be able to discover the needs of the community and meet them as the Spirit leads.

  1. Get 3-6 families to commit to a Growth Group for at least six months (meeting once a week)
  2. Choose a home
  3. Choose a day
  4. Plan to have all the core families bring food
  5. Develop a Bible study plan (make it Christ-centered and ready for non-Adventists)
  6. Start inviting non-Adventist family and friends to the first session and keep inviting people at all times
  7. When the Growth Group is getting too big… start another in a 2nd home and a 3rd home and a 4th home…

Let us set aside time every week to work the harvest for Jesus.  God loved us so much that He sent His one and only Son to die for us.  This should compel us to jump out of our comfort zones and boldly share the love of God every chance we get.

May the good Lord bless you with a desire to be like Jesus!
