All-American Muslim

Posted on December 24, 2011

I recently learned that LOWES (home improvement store) withdrew its television ads on the cable channel TLC because of the reality show “All-American Muslim.”  As far as I know, the Florida Family Association applied pressure to LOWES (and other companies) to boycott TLC and they caved in.

The reality show is about average, everyday Americans who happen to be Muslims.

I do not know about you, but I have traveled to various countries around the world where Islam is the main religion and have never seen extreme Muslims carrying out terrorist acts.  I even lived near a large Muslim community in the Philadelphia area and not once saw extreme Muslims training to overthrow Christianity or Americans.  My personal experience with Muslims has been positive.  My wife grew up in Indonesia with Muslim students attending her school.  Indonesia is mainly populated by people who have embraced the Islam faith.  Not once did my wife encounter extreme Muslims trying to kill Christians.

Do not get me wrong… I know for a fact that there are extreme Muslims who hate Christians and Americans.  But this does not mean that every Muslim is an extremist out to kill.  Think about it… Just about every religious persuasion has a small extremist group that abuses the belief system and tries to set themselves higher and better than others.  Even Christians have the white supremacist groups who believe the Bible supports their “stinking thinking.”  Does this mean every Christian is a white supremacist?  No!

As Christians, we are to love EVERYONE!!!  This does not mean we must allow extremist Muslims or extremist Christians to abuse and hurt others or us.  As for LOWES boycotting TLC for showing “All-American Muslim,” I now rather shop at another home improvement store because of their ignorance.  It was a similar ignorance that caused white people to enslave black people because of the color of their skin.

We are to be children of God who love and accept people no matter what the color of their skin is… or the faith they choose to follow… or the food they eat… etc. etc. etc.  We are to love EVERYONE because EVERYONE is a child of God (some are followers and some are not).

Therefore go and teach ALL NATIONS, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things, whatever I commanded you. And, behold, I am with you all the days until the end of the world. — Matthew 28:19, 20
